Heroine ni Naritai:
Chp.2: Rui no First Valentine
(Rui's First Valentine)
The three friends are celebrating Rui's 14th birthday, and between
some things and the others they end up talking about St. Valentin
day (which is coming closer). Saya (Sayako) and Midori ask Rui
who she likes (Midori notes that there are some boys in the volley
club interested in her...), but Rui says that she has no interest
in boys.
The other two won't give up, however, and ask her what type of
guy does she like. Rui, (after much thinking ^^;; ) decides that
she likes croquettes and two guys (who, I think, are book authors).
Saya and Midori are taken aback by this but Saya tells Rui that
she must give a chocolate to a guy in Valentine's day--to which Rui
replies very happily that she also likes Asahi Fuji and Kirishima
(authors again, I think).
Not quite what Saya and Midori were thinking about... ^^;;;
Next day when Rui arrives at school, she find her shoe box
so full of love letters that they fall to the floor (in japanese
schools, you leave your shoes
in a designated area and use other shoes inside school--which
you can't take outside, of course), and while Saya and her are
picking them up surrounded by other curious students, Saya coments
about certain Natsuki Shouya that likes Rui very much. Rui reads
the name on one of the letters and shows it to Saya: "This Natsuki
Shouya?"
Saya is very scandalized that Rui said it aloud, because behind
them another female student blushes furiously and runs away. Rui doesn't
get it but poor Saya doesn't know what to do with Rui to make her see (^^;;; )
Later in the night Rui reads the love letters and wonders about boyfriends
and boys.
After classes, Rui goes to a bookshop and is very happy to find the
lastest novel by Aogawa Jirou, and just when she is about to get it, another
hand touches hers.
Rui looks up and sees this good-looking guy with a scar under/at the side
of his right eye. After blushing, the guy grabs the book very fast and goes
to the casher after telling Rui the books is his to buy.
Rui is quite "uh?" at all this while the guy tryes to buy the book but... he
doesn't have enough money (^^), so Rui ends up lending him some. Once outside
the store, Rui asks him if he likes Aogawa, and the guy nods--it's not long
before they are both happily talking about books and everything.
When they arrive at the bus stop (for Rui to take the bus home), the guy
asks her if she's not afraid of him. Rui doesn't know what he's talking about
and he tells her about his scar (Rui thought he was a Yakuza... ^^;; ).
Finally the guy asks Rui about her name and when she tells him, he looks
surprised, but before he can tell her his name, the bus' doors close and it
drives away. Rui thinks about their strange meeting and thinks that maybe
she... naaah, can't be.
Next day as her and Midori go to school, the one student who ran away the
day before (when she heard about Natsuki Shouya writing her a letter) stops them
and tells Rui that she saw her with Natsuki-kun's brother! After Midori starts
balking back to the student, a guy appears and asks what are they talking about
him. Rui looks at him and thinks that this is Natsuki Shouya. She asks him
if he likes Aogawa, but he obviously is at a loss of what she's talking about, so
Rui walks away. (She has a knack for those things... ^^; )
Later in a break, Saya, Midori and Rui talk about what happened before and
the day before. Saya asks Rui if she likes that guy from the bookshop. Rui
at first says she doesn't know, but after a little it's obvious she does like
him quite a bit.
Just then, one of the teachers appears and calls Rui to go to the teachers'
longue.
Once in there, the teacher asks Rui about her seeing this delinquent boy from
senior high school. Rui gets mad and after saying that he is no delinquent because
he likes books so much, she storms out of the place and runs to the bookshop where
she first met him, hoping to see him again.
However he is nowhere to be seen and instead she finds Shouya, who is buying
some books from Aogawa to make himself more likeable to Rui. But Rui doesn't like
this and in that moment the guy enters the bookshop and she runs into his arms.
The guy is very shocked (and happy, too ^^ ) and then he sees Shouya.
Shouya is very mad at him and tells him to take his hands off his girlfriend,
to which Rui complains. But Shouya is very angry and pushes his brother out to the
street and starts punching him, insulting him all the while.
Rui tries to stop them but to no avail and when his brother finally says what
Shouya wants to hear, Shouya leaves him and walks away without seeing the car
that's coming. Before it hits him, his brother pushes him out of the way
and gets hit instead to Rui's horror.
In the hospital, a crying Shouya tells Rui how his older brother saved him
from drowning when they were kids and ended up with the scar on his cheek. He's
full of remorses because of his treatment to him and doesn't want him to die.
Well, of course he doesn't ^^
Days later Rui goes to see him at the hospital (after Midori's and Saya's
teasings!). His name is Keiichi and will be 16 in June. Rui asks him what his
dreams are, and he replies that he wants to be a novelist.
She thinks that's really cool and procedes to give him a chocolate box
present (it's Valentine's day!). He takes her hands and tells her that he
likes her (eversince they met at the bookstore).
And a very happy Rui tells him that she likes him too ^^
