Uwasa no Seventeen

Uwasa no Seventeen was published in The Margaret issue #4'03 (different magazine than normal Margaret).
This is the story of a young girl working part-time at a video store who meets and falls in love with a young police officer investigating a case. But because they are too busy fighting (or not!) their relationship, they don't realize she is working in the lion's den! (And Sakura-sensei draws probably her coolest guy yet! ^o^; )

Uwasa no Seventeen

Batan had the disgrace of having a photo taken of her as she ate away a giant ramen bowl, and ever since, all type of rumors have gone around about her and is kind of known as the "queen of eating"... That's the reason she chooses to hide away in the chemistry lab to eat her gigantic onigiri (rice-ball). However, she is interrupted by another student, who uses the boiler to boil water for... instant ramen! (^^;; ) Batan runs away in shame but is visited by him again later during class. His name is Nao Sugai, and there are rumors going around about him because he was seen walking with an older, pretty woman and is thought to be a host club worker... he is just as famous in school as she is! After school, while pondering if she will ever make it to home without fainting from hunger, she spots Sugai talking to a host club man! She wonders if he really works in a host club, but then is asked for sex by a drunk salary man and has to run to Sugai for help... right before the man pukes all over her. (^^; ) Sugai takes her to his home, and Batan sees evidence of an older woman all over! As it turns out, however, the "woman" is just his mother, who works in a hostess club. After Batan comes out of the bath, she discovers Sugai heard her stomach rumbling and made some food for her... but she tries to eat the ramen way too fast! (^^) Sugai laughs and tells her that the ramen isn't going to run away. They both talk about the rumors circulating in school about them. Before going home, Batan promises Sugai she will make onigiri for him the next day as a thanks for helping her out. Next day, Sugai and Batan eat together her onigiri (and some other things... ^^; ). Sugai explains that his mother can't cook, while Batan complains about her three brothers. Sugai says that food tastes better when you eat with someone else, so Batan agrees to eat with him every day (he is very happy at the extra onigiri he will get out of this...)... but Batan is starting to feel very attracted to him ... That night at home, Batan eats very little (which shocks her family)... she has never felt like this before! Next day, her friend helps her discover that what she is feeling is love. At lunch time, Sugai wonders why she is eating so little, while poor Batan blushes away. He wonders if she has a fever, but she runs away. Unfortunately, two other students have seen them... Batan finally realizes she likes Sugai. Next day when Batan arrives to the school, everybody is whispering and looking at her in a weird way. It seems there are rumors about her and Sugai being together. While Batan is hiding in the bathroom, she overhears two girls saying how Sugai and her don't fit each other at all and maybe she is paying Sugai. Later on, a depressed Batan sees someone put an evil drawing of her and Sugai on the message board with her paying him to kiss her with the money she got from the super ramen that started all her problems. Sugai catches up with her, and asks what is wrong with her because she is almost crying. He manages to look at the drawing and gets really serious, telling the crowd that he will not forgive those who make Batan cry. Batan tries to tell him that she is okay and is very happy he is doing that for her... but faints in the process... from hunger. (^^; ) Sugai carries Batan to the infirmary, and she wakes up with a load of packed food on her lap. Sugai urges her to eat something, but she tells him that she can't because she is full with thoughts and worries about him, and because he is rumored about because of her. But Sugai smiles and says that if it's rumors about them both together, he couldn't care less, then kisses her in the mouth! (And the rumors spread all over again... ^^ ) --The End--
