Makunogama High School: Nobuhisa IDE Ruui / Louis TAKITA Hinako TAKADA Hiroyuki MIYAMOTO

 

Nobuhisa IDE

Ide is a young hyper-active (and quite clueless at times) high school student. He somehow manages to end up making friends with everybody and he never stops to think twice (hence always saying what he thinks no matter how weird it might sound). He has been in love with Hinako ever since he first met her and that's why he ended up in the Makunogama high school. He has absolutely no problem in making a fool of himself if the ocassion calls for it. However, his intentions are always truthful and serios, and from time to time he is quite capable of keeping a cool head. Ide is very good at sports. He used to be the star of the track team in his junior high and shocked about everybody when he dropped that sport to start playing tennis. He is a very fast learner and his strength balances out his initial lack of technic. He is a "slow starter" and it takes him a little while to reach peak performance level. Ide starts the manga in first year of high school (15-16 years old), and his best friends are his fellow team members, especially Louis and Miyamoto (with whom he used to play with in the little league and a former classmate). He has an older brother.

 

Ruui / Louis TAKITA

Louis (kanji romanized as Ruui), also called RuiRui by Ide, is half french. His mother used to be a great French tennis player, but his parents divorced and he has lived with his Japanese father since little. He used to belong to a famous club, but because of work reasons, he and his father moved and he decided to join the Makunogama tennis club. He is a serious non-expressive person who has a problem trusting his own power and merits as well as with dealing with pressure. Even though he becomes friends with Ide, he starts to have a problem with how good Ide has become. He also has to stand his father's attitude towards tennis, and his insistence that he stops playing. Louis is a great technical player and has played tennis all his life. His great rival is Shun SASEKO, who also happens to be Hinako's cousin. He doesn't have many friends except the others in the tennis team. He starts the manga as a first year as well as Ide and Miyamoto. His greatest fan is the daughter of his father's company's president, Mako HONJOU.

 

Hinako TAKITA

Hinako used to belong to the female tennis club of the Makunogama high school but suffered an accident complicated with an infection, which resulted in her lossing the use of (all?) her left leg and having to use a crutch and go to rehabilitation. Also because of this she had to repeat first year of high school, which makes her a classmate of Ide. Although the accident left her desolated, she has discovered a new way to be near tennis in the form of the manager of the male tennis team. She still has to deal with a lot of issues that came from the accident and her relationship with some parts of her family afterwards. Hinako is a normal girl, a little too morose at times, who is about the most normal person in the whole manga (and that's saying a lot). Not hyper-genki, not stupid, and pretty able to get very mad at times. Although she used to be very close to her cousin Shun SASEKO, because of a fight after her accident they difted appart. However it seems Shun is intent on rectifing that... Hinako seems to have a hard time deciding between him and Ide (in fact, she is still wondering how come Ide ever made it to the "decide zone" part...).

 

Hiroyuki MIYAMOTO

Miyamoto is Ide's classmate and one of his best friends. When they met at the start of the school year, Ide didn't remember him even though they used to play together in the Little League when they where little, and were classmates during the first year of Junior high! He joins the tennis club with Ide although he has also never played it before. He is one of the average players in the team although he does get to shine from time to time. Miyamoto is a normal, carefree guy. He likes another of the students in their year, a girl called Kanako NAKAYAMA.
