Here you can find synopsis of the chapters of Gakkou no Ojikan

the summaries, it's
the best way of thanking the authors and the synopsis are nothing

Fast Index:
Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the
print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans
pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon
quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Chapter 1 (Sep'2003)
[ vol.01 ]
|
|
An old man has died, and in his will, he leaves
his dearest possession to his grand-daughter...
Young Riku takes the train back home from school when
she notices what a pretty
faced guy is standing right next to her. He is really
tall as well. When he notices her looking, she smiles
slightly and Riku is embarrassed. Then the bus takes a
jolt and she is pushed right into his arms! She apologizes
profusely and is really happy she has a chance to talk to
him... until someone behind her
says what a bother her
hair is. The cool guy says it's really cute, and after
a couple of well chosen and not very nice words about it,
the other guy takes the cool guy away. Riku spends the
rest of the trip daydreaming...(^^)
However when Riku arrives home, she notices an
expensive car parked in front of her house. And inside,
a woman takes a look at her and wonders why the old
man chose such a kid. Riku wonders what the heck is
going on and asks her father. As it turns out, Riku's
dead mother's dad (of who Riku knew nothing about)
has left her as the chairman of a school. The Magareto
school is an elite school with junior and high school levels
and 685 students. Riku refuses the post but the woman
tells her to calm down and takes her to visit the
school in question. However Riku's panic gives way
while on the tour and she decides to run away.
While running aimlessly through the halls, she
crashes into a student...the cool guy from the train,
Kaede-Kun! He helps her hide from the woman, then asks
her how she found out his name. She explains that his
friend called him like that in the train. He thought
she might be a "little stalker"... (^^; )
He then takes her to another room and lends her
a sports jacket, since with her uniform from another
school everybody will notice her. Riku is really happy
and puts the jacket on, but another student enters the
room and demands to know what she is doing with his
jacket! It turns out to be the short, blonde guy and
Riku is depressed that it's not Kaede's jacket and
starts to complain about how bad it smells. Kaede
himself interrupts their fight and tells him that
he lent it to her because his size is much better
since he is small... (^^;;; )
They both then demand to know what her name is
and she introduces herself, AOBO Riku. They recognize
the family name and realize the rumors are true about
the new school chairman.
They both welcome
her and she realizes that if she becomes the chairman,
then she will spend her school life with these two.

Chapter 2 (Sep'2003)
[ vol.01 ]
|
|
Riku is introduced to the students as the new
school president (and manages to smack her head against
the microphone, too ^^; ). After a short talk with two
of the teachers (one being Natori-san, the same woman who
went to her house) and Kaede, she arrives to her class, but
the other students stay away from her and aren't too happy that
she is in their class. She also finds out that she
will be sitting right next to Maki! He isn't very pleased
though... Riku wonders why he is always mad.
During class, Maki suddenly announces his stomach is
hurting and leaves the classroom. The teacher seems nervous but
doesn't say anything. Right afterwards Kaede gives the same
excuse and leaves as well. Riku decides to go check them out
as well, and leaves while one of the girls in the class watches her.
She eventually catches up with them and asks why they
aren't going to the infirmary if they are hurting. They say
they just want to go to sleep and that studying on their own
is better than studying in class. Riku stops them again and
tells them to go back to class. Maki gets really angry and
yells at her that just because she is the president doesn't
mean she can give them orders.
Kaede is a bit worried but Riku slaps the back of Maki's
head and tells them that it's not about being the president,
but about saying something is wrong when it's wrong. She
tells them those are her words as Riku, not as president. Maki
simply says he hates her and leaves, Kaede follows him
after excusing himself to Riku. Riku wonders what the heck
is wrong with them.

Chapter 3 (Oct'2003)
[ vol.01 ]
|
|
Riku makes friends with one of her classmates, Yuzuru HOUSHOU,
who is also a member of the track team. In fact, she is the
only member, and she also seems to have a problem with her
ankle and is a bit sour over it, as she tells Riku she
doesn't run fast at all.
Riku wonders why the teacher didn't say anything about
Maki and Kaede, and Yuzuru tells her they are treated in a
different way because Kaede is very intelligent and got super-top
grades and Maki has attitude problems and even hit a teacher.
Yuzuru says that it seems Kaede has some interest in Maki.
Riku wonders why Yuzuru calls Kaede by his first name and
then realizes it's probably because she is his girlfriend! She
says they've been together since junior high. Riku is a bit
depressed but then cheers again when Yuzuru calls her Riku, since
it's the first time someone (in the school) has called her
by her first name (*).
Kaede appears and tells Riku he had been looking for her, but
his relationship with Yuzuru seems a bit strained. Once alone, Kaede
apologizes for Maki's attitude and Riku says that he doesn't
need to apologize to her, although he should to the teacher.
Kaede finds this very amusing. He shows Riku his and Maki's
favorite spot in the school, over the roof overlooking the
campus. Riku tells Kaede that being chairwoman is no fun and
that is a bit lonely because everybody stays away from her,
but now that Kaede has showed her this great view of the
school, she has a bit more understanding of the situation
because she feels she has to protect something so pretty.
Kaede tells Riku she will make a good chairwoman, and
Riku says she hopes so.
While they leave through a back path, they pass an open
window of one of the offices. There Natori-sensei is talking
with someone else and Yuzura's name is mentioned. Kaede makes
Riku hide with him under the window so they can listen to
the conversation. Although Riku is excited about being so
close to him, she suddenly gets serious when Natori-sensei
says that since Yuzuru can't run anymore, they should let
go of her (expulse her from the school)!
(* - The use of names in Japanese culture is too
extensive to tell here, but basically Riku is very happy because
in this case (school), first-name calling is used between friends
or classmates you get along with, so Yuzuru is treating her like
a normal classmate/friend-to-be as opposed to everybody else who are
keeping their distance.)

Chapter 4 (Oct'2003)
[ vol.01 ]
|
|
Next day at school, Riku arrives early in the morning
to watch Yuzuru's morning training. Riku is still pondering
about what she and Kaede heard the evening before and wants
to talk to him about it as soon as possible. While she waits
for him,
she has a close encounter with Maki (^^).
After she recovers from the shock of being so close to
him, she asks him about Kaede, but Maki is mad at her because
she keeps calling him "Makki" (which is the wrong way to
pronounce his name).
At the same time, Kaede talks to Yuzuru and asks if her
leg hurts. She blushes but tells him it's not his problem,
then leaves.
At lunch break Riku asks Yuzuru to have lunch with her,
intending to find more about her injury, but Kaede appears
and asks if "they" can join them. Riku wonders about the
"they," but soon finds out he was referring to Maki, of course.
Riku notices how cold things are between Kaede and Yuzuru.
As they leave the classroom, a teacher catches up with them
to talk with Riku but then notices Yuzuru and says to her that
she must be now trying to ingratiate herself with Riku so she
can avoid being expulsed. Yuzuru tries to deny this but the
teacher just keeps being mean to her. Yuzuru leaves and
Riku runs after her. Meanwhile, Kaede and Maki have a couple of
words with the teacher in their scary mode.
Riku asks Yuzuru if it's true about her leaving the school.
Riku tells her not to worry about what the teacher just said,
but Yuzuru asks her to leave her alone for a bit.
Kaede arrives shortly after and Riku asks him about
Yuzuru's injury and why she has to leave the school. Kaede
tells Riku that Yuzuru entered the school because of her
athletics abilities ("recommendation for athletics"). She was
a famous and very fast runner during middle school (jr. high)
but then right after entering high school she had an accident
with another competitor and wasn't able to make it to the
inter-high (*). After recovery she still wasn't able to
run as before. Riku thinks that it was an accident, so there
should be no talk about leaving. She tells Kaede to leave it
to her!
But Natori-sensei dashes Riku's hopes right away. She tells
her that it's the school's rules so there is no other way. She
also tells Riku that since she is now the chairman, she should
discard her personal feelings (when making decisions about the
school).
Riku walks away from the office room depressed and deep
in thought, thinking that she was stupid to think that just
because she was the chairwoman she could do anything she
wanted. She even passes Maki without noticing him.
Riku goes to the painting of her grandfather and wonders
what she should do. She wonders what he would do in a
situation like this one. Maki appears behind her and says
that her grandfather would have expulsed Yuzuru right away
because she had an injury, therefore she couldn't run. If
she couldn't run then they don't want her and the things
the school doesn't want must be cut off right away. Maki tells
Riku that's the kind of person her grandfather was.
Riku thinks that's awful, but Maki says that even she
can't change anything, so she should give up about Yuzuru.
But Riku gets angry and tells him that
she is not
giving up on her. Maki is surprised, but then smiles(?)
and
tells her to show him
how she is different from her
grandfather. Riku thinks that things become precious, so
you must protect them, so of course she will do it.
(* - Every year the winners of
the high school sports competitions per province go to a
national competition. This national is called "Inter-High"
and usually happens during August, coinciding with the
school summer holidays. Winning (or even accessing) the
inter-high is a very big deal.)
