Synopsis

(And remember to buy these tankobon if you like the summaries, it's the best way of thanking the authors and the synopsis are nothing compared to the real thing! ^^ )

All synopsis are by Zahara Medina, and cannot be used anywhere else without her permission. As she is just a student of Japanese, any help, comments or corrections are more than welcome! ^^;

Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Chapter 5 (Nov'2003) [ vol.01 ]

Next morning, Riku is still pondering over the matter when she meets Yuzuru on the way to school. She wonders why she isn't in morning practice, but Yuzuru tells her that since she will be leaving the school soon there is no point in training anymore.

After being teased by Maki Riku goes to the library to find books about regulations and meets Kaede there, who thanks her for all her efforts and sends her heart fliying. Later on they invade Maki's room with their books and try to find a way to keep Yuzuru. Kaede and Maki realize that there is a local tournament coming on, a competition between their school and a neighbouring rival school which might just be the opportunity they are looking for.
Riku goes to Natori-sensei, who agrees to reconsider their decision if Yuzuru wins in the tournament (it seems Margaret School's winning record against their neighbour is pretty lousy... ^^;;; ). However there is a problem, and that is that there are no track events in the competition.

Maki meets Riku on her way out, she is going to talk to the other school, Ouryou School. Maki wonders if she even knows where the school is, and she says she will ask Kaede. However Kaede is with Yuzuru, who asks Riku about their plan. Riku tells her happily that it's true, and then leaves, with Maki following her after observing the previous words exchange. He points her in the right direction and tells her they have to take a bus. As they wait for the bus, Riku gets a bit down thinking about Kaede and Yuzuru. Maki asks her why she is trying so hard, and Riku tells him that Yuzuru is a friend, and doesn't he want to be with his friends too? Maki tells Riku that Yuzuru is Kaede's ex-girlfriend, and Riku gets upset because it she shouldn't be concerned or relieved about Kaede and Yuzuru's relationship.

Chapter 6 (Nov'2003) [ vol.01 ]

Riku and Maki arrive at the rival school and are sent to the student council for questions about the tournament. Maki tells Riku he is leaving, since it's her job, not his. Riku gets all pumped up and goes for it, but Maki decides to go with her because she has no idea where she is going to (^^; ).
At the student council room, Riku happily asks the president to include a track event in the tournament. The guy doesn't quite believe she is who she says she is, and two of the other students comment on how Margaret School is finished now that the chairman is a female high school student. Riku tells them very strongly it's not. Hmph!

The president tells them that they will put it in... if they ask for it by kneeling on the floor (*). Maki gets really mad but the president says that since this is done at Margaret's School wishes this is the least they can do to repair the unfairness. Maki tells them to go to hell and takes Riku with him. He then realizes he is taking her hand and lets go very quickly and blushingly.
Riku tells him that she will do it because they won't have such a chance again and it's the only thing they can do to help Yuzuru. Maki tells her she is silly and a chairman shouldn't have to do it and besides she is a girl. Riku doesn't really understand what being a girl has to do with anything, but Maki tells her to wait outside and goes back.
At the student council room, Maki kneels down and asks them to do this favor for them. The council is pretty shocked and surprised.

Maki meets Riku outside the school and hands her an official looking paper, as the council president had promised, the tournament now has a track event. Maki tells her he didn't do it for her sake. Riku asks if for Yuzuru, but Maki answers, Kaede. Riku realizes that the expression on his face had become much more mature than usual.

Next day the news have spread, the nasty teacher isn't sure it's a good idea, but Natori-sensei says it's fine since they made a promise about it. Meanwhile, Riku goes around cheering all the sport clubs. Kaede finds her and asks why she is doing it, and she says that because Natori-sensei said they lose to the other school, she felt like cheering everybody.
Suddenly Riku asks Kaede about having gone out with Yuzuru, surprising herself. Kaede nods and starts to explain, but Riku cuts in and says she understands, then leaves under the excuse to cheer another sport club. Riku tells herself that always being with her it's not for her sake.
From a window, Maki stops two guys laughing at Riku.

Back to Riku thoughts, she says that even if that's so, she is still the chairman and a friend. So she goes to Yuzuru and Kaede. Yuzuru thanks her for giving her this opportunity, and Riku says this is as far as she can do, but she is sure Yuzuru will be able to win. Riku then leaves after seeing Kaede and Yuzuru's obvious closeness and cries a bit, accepting the situation and promising to protect [her friendship with Yuzuru].

(* : We all know about Japanese bowing and that there are several levels. In modern times, waist-deep bowing is the deepest people go, but actually the "deepest" you can go is kneel in the floor as if you are sitting the Japanese way, put your hands in front of you touching or close together and bend your body and arms until your forehead is touching your hands while looking down. This is a bow servants would use with their masters (or subordinates to their lords) in older times and it's very rare nowadays. If you see a yakuza (gangsters) movie or manga, the subordinate that is brought in front of the Evil Boss because he has done something wrong will usually kneel like this while begging for his life. People will do it in occasions, but it's a very uncomfortable thing for the one you are bowing to (unless s/he needs an ego trip) and obviously a very shameful thing to do (in the sense that it's a big stab to one's pride).)

Chapter 7 (Dec'2003) [ vol.01 ]

Tournament day arrives and Riku meets the other school's chairman, who seems nice (young) and cool.
Yuzuru wins her run, but when the relay races arrive, one of the girls gets sick and none of the others wants to stand in, so Riku decides to participate (mixed race, two girls, two boys). When Maki and Kaede hear the news, they decide to stand in. Riku is very glad (because she runs really slowly), and is amazed at Kaede's running abilities. Yuzuru says he is much faster than she.
After they win the run, Riku happily thanks Maki, who snubs her as usual and goes on his way. However, when one of the students catches up with him, he notices Maki's face is totally red.
