Part 07. [version 1.1]
Maria and Kojirou separate after
their kiss...
And Maria is resolved. "I'm going to Japan too!"
Kojirou tries to change her mind, since it could be
dangerous for her, but Maria wants to go
with Kojirou because she is worried about him and... she
doesn't want him to be alone. Kojirou can't help but give
in in front of her concerns, and asks what will happen
with Antonio (since he said that about marrying Maria when
returning to Spain).
Maria says with a sad face that she will talk with him
but... she is going to Japan.
When Kojirou returns to the bedroom he is sharing with
Antonio, he looks worried at him. "I'm sorry, Antonio." As
Kojirou gets into his bed, Antonio, facing the other side,
opens his eyes with a mix of sadness and defeat showing on
his face. [Antonio... ;_;]
On the next morning, Maria waits for Antonio worried about
what she is going to tell him (and how), but to her surprise
a very energetic Antonio enters the room and starts commenting
about the morning and everything while poor Maria is trying
to tell him about she not leaving with him. However, Antonio
hands her an envelope and some papers and tells her to write
letters.
Maria doesn't know what he is talking about, but Antonio
simply explains that she must write to her father about what
is happening and that he will deliver the letter.
Antonio...!?
Of course Antonio tries to laugh it all off but he can't
avoid showing his disappointment at one point, but when Maria
is about to talk he just tells her to hurry up with the letters
as time is running out. So Maria starts to write as Antonio waits
for her to finish.
"I... was serious about you...
"But..."
Maria smiles softly at him. "Thank you, Antonio...
"Thank you..." Kojirou, standing outside, hears Maria
with a thoughtful look on his eyes.
"This is for father and this for Martin."
Antonio takes it all and offers her his hand. "Stay well,
Maria."
Maria takes his hand for a shake. "Yes!"
But Antonio has other plans and with a pull, he makes Maria
fall forward and kisses her in the mouth! (^^) Kojirou, looking
from the door is in shock! (^^)
"Adios, Maria."
"Antonioo~~!!" Maria chases Antonio out of the room, and as
he goes out, her notices Kojirou--still looking at him in horror--
and shows his best grin!
As he goes away, he tells Kojirou to take good care of Maria.
[This is a very common thing one says when one is
entrusting a dear one to somebody (like a family member to his/her
significant other, etc...) in Japan. It's the sign that you are
officially giving an ok to that relationship.]
Maria goes out after him but stops when seeing Kojirou. Then
she looks towards Antonio with a kind expression on her face.
Adios.... Antonio....
And so the time to explain what the heck is Maria doing back
in Luis' ship comes. But thankfully for them, Luis doesn't seem
to have much problem with it as long as she is not a bother, thus
the journey continues for both of them!
As days pass, Maria tells Kojirou that she wants to speak
Japanese and he starts teaching her. [In case
you are wondering, purest latin-based languages such as
Spanish or Italian's pronunciation are very similar to Japanese;
and like Japanese, with Spanish you also pronounce things as
you read them in most of the cases]
"Goo...d MOrning..."
Kojirou corrects Maria on where to put the accent while one
of the sailors cheers her. As Maria practices more, Kojirou looks
at her with a warm smile.
"Hello!! Hello. I am Maria!! How you do do!!"
"How do you do, perhaps?"
Maria smiles happily. "Ahh, that's it. How do you..."
Maria turns around surprised when she realized somebody just
helped her. "Captain!?"
Captain Luis smiles and comments on her enthusiasm.
"Captain understands Japanese?"
Kojirou walks up to the bridge in time to hear them.
"Just a little."
"How great! Has Captain gone to Japan?"
Captain Luis nods as Kojirou asks him seriously how come
he knows his father.
Captain Luis tells them that more than 10 years ago he
went to Japan for the first time, but fell ill with some
kind of smallpox. Masamune took care of him because he, himself
had that same illness (that's how both of them lost one
of their eyes), and so Masamune turned into Captain Luis'
benefactor.
When he finishes, Maria turns to Kojirou and compliments
his father saying what a fine man he is. But Kojirou turns
around and steps down of the bridge to her surprise.
She follows him and asks him what's wrong. Kojirou says in
obvious pain that his father also hoped like his brother
for him to die. Maria tries to understand what he is thinking
but Kojirou yells to stop using that name (Kojirou)!
He tells her then about how they snubbed at his chosen
name and reveals the true story in anguish and anger.
"The name Kojirou... is the name of my father's younger brother,
who my father slew with his own hands..."
"An actual younger brother!?"
"My father is the landlord that he is now because he killed his
own younger brother in the inheritance war...! And so he named
me with such a cursed name...."
However,
she tells him that she likes "Kojirou" very much... and she
is very happy that Kojirou talked with her about it....
Kojirou looks relieved.
Time later the sailor on top of the main mastiff calls
for the Captain, they've arrived to Japan's coast!
All the sailors and Maria rush to take a look, Maria
is very happy that she is finally seeing Kojirou's land
but he is just looking at it with face of awareness and
worry.
