Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Chapter 8 (Nov'2002) [ vol.02 ]
Flashback to the months after Usagi was born. Usagi's grandfather tells a little Goemon that Usagi is his bride, so he has to take care of her at all times. And so Goemon starts doing everything, including his ninja training, with a baby Usagi tied to his back (the traditional way mothers carry babies on their backs while they are working or doing household chores). Eventually he becomes better than the other kids and finally leaves Usagi behind. Back to the present, Usagi hits Goemon and scolds him, saying that she likes Hanzou, and if it's not him, then no one. Goemon asks what he is for her then, and she attaches to his back and says he is her "huggy pillow" (^^;;;). However, Usagi thinks to herself that she was really shocked to see Goemon with that serious face... she thinks that she likes Goemon but it's not the same as with Hanzou. At the Hanzou keep things are back to silence and tranquility, but some people miss Usagi and try to tell Hanzou to go back for her. Hanzou stands proudly and says he isn't going. Sara tells him that he doesn't understand women's hearts (well of course he doesn't, he is a man after all, he insists) and the old man gives him Genji Monogatari so he can "study" about all these things... (^^;;; ) At Usagi's place, things are going very similar as her granddad and Goemon bicker about love relationships. Goemon tells Usagi that he would do anything for the sake of the woman he likes... and then tries to convince her again to become his bride (^^). Mamezou misunderstands this as that they are engaged. He says he has to go back to Hanzou's keep because he forgot his little knife there. After he is gone, Usagi's granddad mentions that the prize for this year's fighting/ninja/general skills competition is a love potion so... Usagi wants to participate. Goemon accuses her to wanting to feed it to Hanzou, but Usagi denies that and says that she would give it to Hanzou so he can be happy. The other girls pull Usagi away from Goemon and tell her that she has to win by herself. As she walks away, Usagi thinks that she will do her best to make Hanzou happy, including helping him achieve love with the one he likes (Sara). Unfortunately, Usagi is as bad as always, and flunks terribly on the ninja stars throwing competition. However, Goemon appears to save the day. Usagi is surprised since he wasn't supposed to participate in the competition because of his bad leg, but Goemon just asks her if she wants the potion or not. Usagi is really happy, and thanks to Goemon, they get top marks at everything. Meanwhile, Hanzou is not liking Genji Monogatari at all (^^; ). Mamezou appears and tells him why he came back. Hanzou asks him where Usagi is, and he tells him that she is preparing her wedding to Goemon, then invites Hanzou to come! Hanzou freezes. Back to the competition, Usagi notices that Goemon is having problems with his leg just in time for the running test. Suddenly, Usagi's granddad announces that the winner of the race will get double the points, and the rest of the runners are very happy, since this would mean that they can win over Goemon in the overall competition points if they win now. Granddad tells poor Goemon that since he wins all the years, it's getting really boring... The race starts, but Goemon can't run too well, so Usagi takes his place and tells him to leave it to her! Usagi runs away and thinks that after the whole thing is over, she will prepare medicine for Goemon's leg. However, everybody is faster than Usagi, even the kids! Goemon wonders how she is doing, but she hasn't even finished the first lap (out of ten!). She is having a really bad time, and then as one of the other runners passes her roughly, she falls to the floor. But she is not giving up! She must do it for Hanzou... So she stands up and continues, but trips again and is about to fall... right into Hanzou's arms!
Chapter 9 (Dec'2002) [ vol.02 ]
Hanzou takes Usagi and runs with her on his back and wins the race, to everybody's amazement. Goemon is not very happy with this, and when Usagi happily goes to tell him to go give his thanks to Hanzou as well, Goemon introduces himself as Usagi's future husband. Usagi is in shock when he goes on about they supposed nuptials, and then kisses her on the mouth in front of everybody! Hanzou is very surprised and turns away, excusing himself and leaving the place. Usagi wants to go to him to explain, but Goemon tells her that it's better if she stays with him. Usagi tells him that she hates him and breaks free, running after Hanzou. Because of his bad leg, Goemon can't follow her... Usagi's granddad realizes that Goemon really likes Usagi. Meanwhile, Usagi runs searching for Hanzou, but realizes he is on the other side of a very steep river cliff. Since the bridge is too far away, she decides to use a tree branch to jump to the other side. Hanzou is shocked and goes to help her, but Usagi jumps short and falls down! Hanzou jumps with her and gathers her close as they both fall into the river. Usagi has another weird dream. Usagi is standing in the middle of a river and is surprised because she can walk over the surface! On one of the sides she can see her parents and her old dog becoming her. But Hanzou stops her from going and hugs her and tells her not to be silly because if she goes to them she will never see him again. Slowly she starts to feel strangled by his hug... and wakes up. She and Hanzou are covered by a blanket and sitting in front of a fire. When he realizes that she is awake, Hanzou hugs her very happy and Usagi wonders if this is the continuation of her dream... She hugs him back happily thinking how smooth he is... smooth? Usagi suddenly realizes they are both naked under the blanket!
Chapter 10 (Dec'2002) [ vol.02 ]
Usagi suddenly remembers the love potion and goes to look for it between her clothes, which are drying near the fire. Hanzou goes to her to cover them both with the blanket again, and tells her that he was really worried about her. Usagi tells Hanzou that she is not promised to Goemon because the one she likes/loves is Hanzou. Hanzou is really surprised and Usagi is dying from shyness. However she remember the potion and gives it to him, telling him while crying and smiling that it's for him to give to the princess (Sara) so she can fall in love with him. She tells him that as long as he is happy, so will she. But to Usagi's horror, he drinks the potion and starts to act lover-like towards her! He stops right before kissing her and tells her sternly that these kind of things don't work like that. Poor Usagi starts to cry and tells him that she is sorry and that she is always doing things that make him hate her, but that the only thing she wants is for him to have good feelings towards her. Hanzou interrupts her with a hug and tells her that he doesn't hate her, and asks her with feeling to stop crying. Hanzou asks Usagi why she likes him since he is not exactly nice to women. Usagi tells him that he is a very good person, and that every time she is near him, her heart beats really fast... while he is holding her against his chest, she realizes that his heart is beating very fast as well! Hanzou chooses to ignore this and tells her to put on her clothes so they can return home. Usagi is happy that she confessed her feelings, since it seems to have cleared the air between them. When they arrive to Hanzou's keep, Goemon is waiting for them ready to confront Hanzou about Usagi's supposed "job" as his child-bearer.
