These synopsis are done by Zahara Medina and can't be used
anywhere else without her consent. As she is just a student of
Japanese, there are bound to be mistakes. If you spot any mistake,
please report it to me,
thanks! :) (comments are also appreciated....)
(And remember to buy these tankobon if you like
the summaries, it's
the best way of thanking the authors and the synopsis are nothing
compared to the real thing! ^^ )
Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the
print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans
pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon
quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Chapter 22 (Jul'2003)
[ vol.04 ]
|
|
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou.
Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II.
Hanzou Sr. = Blonde Hanzou's father.
Goemon's leg is in really bad shape so he urges Usagi and Co.
to go on without him. However Usagi says Goemon must go on with
them because the Mountain Wizard might know a cure for his
leg.
Meanwhile, Hanzou has heard some of the workmen talking
about how Usagi might be in danger (fanservice! *^^* ). He
learns about her plans and wants to go to her, but Hanzou II
convinces him to trust Usagi.
Between Usagi and Yuuri they manage to help Goemon all
the way up the mountain, where they find a plane zone full of
flowers and plants. Usagi looks for the Mountain Wizard and
Mamezou finds a log cabin. When opening the door, Usagi
involuntarily throws it over and walks... right over a
really old man (^^; ). After unsuccessfully trying to get
his attention, a big white bear appears and Usagi tries to
protect the old man. However the bear throws her to a
side and starts to lick the man's face. The man finally
reacts and Usagi begs him to teach her how to make the
eternal-youth medicine. The man refuses and Usagi thinks
she should go and find something to offer him.
After they are all gone, Goemon heatedly begs the
old man to tell about the medicine to Usagi so she can
be with the man she wants, and he is prepared to offer
his own life in exchange if that's what it takes.
Even after Usagi offers a huge mountain of mushrooms
and other veggies (promptly eaten by the bear), the old man
still says nothing, so she decides to camp there until
he decides to talk. As they prepare for bed, Usagi pushes
aside a weird-looking root-like vegetable that looks a bit
like a human.
In the middle of the night, Goemon wakes up suddenly...
just to see the old man ready to strike him with a sickle!

Chapter 23 (Jul'2003)
[ vol.04 ]
|

Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou.
Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II.
Hanzou Sr. = Blonde Hanzou's father.
Yuuri stops the old man just in time! However when she
attempts to strike back, he is really fast and evades all
her attacks. Usagi wakes up and tries to stop her until
she says the Mountain Wizard was attempting to kill them.
However Goemon laughs it off and says he was just
trying to cut the bandages securing his injured leg to
a wooden stick.
The old man looks at his leg and says that he will
heal it. Under Usagi's excited eyes, he puts some lotion
on his leg and then makes and incantation. Then he makes
Goemon drink from his hand (where he formed the kanji for
"justice, right") and suddenly... his leg is healed and
doesn't hurt anymore! Goemon correctly guesses that the
old man used/is a ninja, because he used ninja techniques.
However, he still refuses to tell Yuuri and Usagi how to
make the love potion or the eternal youth potion.
Meanwhile, Hanzou saves a cute, little rabbit from
being eaten by his men. The rabbit doesn't want to
leave his side no matter how much he tries, and suddenly
he realizes how much it just looks like Usagi... (which
means rabbit in Japanese), and decides to stick with it! (^^)
The Mountain Wizard talks with Usagi and Yukimaru about
the philosophy behind treating patients, but then says that
all live is destined to die, so he can't give them a potion
that enables one to live forever. Usagi gets mad because she
thinks he is being mean and selfish by making himself the exception
to his rule (since he is so old and has some kind of
longevity technique going on).
At Hamamatsu Hanzou Sr. is trying to make Ieyasu work
(in his family/land ruler and politician posts), but he
only cares about his vegetables.
Back in the mountains, Usagi is in a really bad mood
and gets into an argument with Yuuri. Usagi wants to go
back to Hanzou's and is really hungry even though she just
ate. Yuuri teases her about gaining weight while Goemon
is more interested in massaging the old man's back (as
thanks for curing his leg)
than in going out to get more food for Usagi, so she
leaves the hut.
Outside, she really starts to cry (she is really
hungry) and Yukimaru, who goes after her, gives her some
candy from overseas (confeti). Usagi really likes them,
so he gives her the whole bottle. Usagi in her usual
happiness mode says how much she likes him and Yukimaru starts
to have his heart pounding really hard...
Usagi says that she will give them to Hanzou as a
return present, but Yukimaru gets a bit mad at this and
tells her that he gave them to her as a present and not
to anybody else. Usagi says she is sorry and that she
will take good care of it.
Yukimaru then tells Usagi to give up on the longevity
medicine and return to Ieyasu's place because what the
old man said is true and there is no place for such a
thing in this world.
Yukimaru continues and says that although he doesn't
really think the techniques the old man uses are wrong,
he thinks depending only on charms and medicinal plants is
old fashioned. He tells Usagi that the medicine science
in other countries (he is referring to Europe) is really good,
they study the way the body works and their treatments are
much better for it than in Japan. Usagi is really surprised
at his words.
Yukimaru tells her
that he has been thinking about going
to study abroad and asks her to go with him.

Chapter 24 (Aug'2003)
[ vol.04 ]
|
|
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou.
Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II.
Hanzou Sr. = Blonde Hanzou's father.
At his keep, Hanzou manages to convince the other
men to fall in love with the cute rabbit just as he
did. Hanzou II appears and tells Hanzou to go see Usagi
if he misses her that much, but Hanzou says that he has
work to do. Hanzou II tries to convince him and although
it seems he failed, Hanzou looks thoughtful (and
blushing!)
Back to Usagi, she tries to find out where this
"south land" (the west/Europe) is (she has absolutely
no idea about the world outside her province... ^^; ). But
when she learns that it's overseas, she declines in no
uncertain terms and repeats her wish to go see Hanzou.
Yukimaru seems a bit depressed.
On her way back to the house, Usagi meets the old man,
who gives her a pouch. It's the eternal youth medicine she
so wanted! Usagi is in shock and everybody is very happy,
except for Yukimaru.
Meanwhile, Usagi's "grandfather" (great-grandfather?) visits
another sick really old-looking man, who wonders if Usagi
returned from the mountains. But the old man just teases
him and then leaves.
Back at the wise man's home, Usagi tries to make friends with
the giant bear and fails. Inside the house, Usagi wonders about
the man-looking bundle she noticed before and tries to trash it,
but the old man stops her. Mamezou wonders if it's the old man's
doll, and Usagi sees parallels with her hugging of the "Hanzou pillow,"
so she asks him to return with them because he is probably too
lonely living alone in the mountains. He refuses.
Later during the night, they all make a small feast to celebrate
their last night there. While Usagi and Yuuri fight, Yukimaru takes
the pouch with the medicine and before anybody can stop him, he
throws it into the fire!
Yukimaru tries to run away but Yuuri and Goemon catch him. He
starts to cry and says that he did it because he didn't want to be
separated from Usagi, and if they had the medicine, she would return
home. Usagi is touched while Yuuri wonders why it's only Usagi that
gets all men's attentions and Yukimaru keeps on saying he is sorry.
However the old man appears and tells Yukimaru there is no need
to apologize. He tells them that it's better if that kind of medicine
doesn't exist anymore. He tells them about how all his family and the
persons important to him died, and how he went into the "Mountain of
Death" (the name of the mountain where they are now) and waited to
die. But time passed and he realizes that dead people live in his heart.
Usagi remembers her own dear dead
parents and dog...
The old man gives them three love potions instead which are supposed
to be good for making babies, which reminds Usagi what her original
purpose was (to bear Hanzou's children). Usagi takes Yuuri to a side and
asks her how one goes about making babies. Yuuri is totally and utterly
shocked Usagi doesn't know! So she proceeds to explain: You get married,
you get naked and into the futon with your spouse, and you "make out"
(Yuuri uses a slang for it, so it sounds really silly ^^).
"Make out?" Well, Yuuri is not sure what that is either because she
isn't married either. (^^;;; )
Usagi has a vision of a half naked Hanzou inviting her to "make out"
and her nostrils suddenly start expulsing blood like little fountains!
Unfortunately for her, the smell of blood has attracted wolves and
Yuuri decides to run away since, well, after all Usagi likes animals,
right?
Usagi is terrified, but as the wolves prepare to attack, a dark
shadow calling her name comes to her rescue and Usagi wonders if it's
Hanzou.
