Ultra Maniac manga synopsis.

These synopsis are done by Zahara Medina and can't be used anywhere else without her consent. As she is just a student of Japanese, there are bound to be mistakes. If you spot any mistake, please report it to me.

Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Act 1 (Feb'2002)
Ayu Tateishi takes good care in keeping up her "cool image" in front of other students, even for the guy she seems to like. One day after classes, she finds new student Nina Sakura crying in the school halls. Turns out that Nina has lost something very important, so Ayu helps her look for it. Ayu finds "it" in the school's gardens: a hand-sized computer with really weird key characters. Ayu wonders if it's some new game machine and gives it no second thought as she returns it to Nina, who is really happy (^^;;; ) Nina asks Ayu if she looked at it, and Ayu replies that not really, but that she should be careful and keep the game machine out of the teaches' view. Nina seems very happy at Ayu's reaction. Afterwards, Nina starts following Ayu everywhere, and Ayu starts wondering if she is some kind of stalker or something, but when she is going to talk to her about it, Nina has disappeared! She is instead walking away and thinking that "Ayu is ok!" Ayu's teammates from the tennis club choose her as their champion to match evil Hiroki Tsujiai for some new goods, a guy Ayu has certan respect for because he is really good at playing tennis. However, Nina appears and tells Ayu she has something important to tell her. Nina tells Ayu that because she found her computer thing, which is really important for her, she is now returning the favor to her (which is ok, because she has made sure that Ayu is a really good person). Thing is, Nina is not human, she is a witch from the Magic Kingdom studing "abroad"! Nina's computer has lots of different types of magic (and she can download lots more from the internet!), so what does Ayu-chan want?? Ayu wants out, and fast. Otherwise, she would like to be better at tennis because she has a match... Nina produces a "magical treasure box," puts in a choco ball, and connects the thing to the computer. Done! Ayu eats the chocoball and... turns into a boy! Ayu wanted to be able to be better at sports, and like this, she is! Nina is very happy with her idea... Even her clothes grew to fit Ayu's new image... At tennis practice, Ayu is very happy with her new speed and strength, and introduces herself to the other club members as being Ayu's 2nd degree cousin and having come instead of her, so the girls send "him" to the match against Hiroki. Unfortunately, Ayu and her new body don't really match all that well, and she turns out to be pretty much unable to play decently and loses 6-0. She is really ashamed of losing so badly, but to her surprise, Hiroki doesn't declare the male side of the club winner, but divides things in half between girls and boys. Now Ayu thinks that he is a really cool guy... Afterwards, Nina is very sorry that her magic didn't quite work well, but Ayu says it's ok. However, when Nina is using her computer to turn Ayu back into a girl, she doesn't seem to be able/know how to! Ayu is not so happy anymore...
Act 2 (Mar'2002)
Ayu (back to her normal body) arrives to the school with a really gloomy expression on her face. Nina asks her why that face, and Ayu tells her that she had an encounter with a gropping pervert in the bus. She says that she usually walks to the school, but that day she used the bus because it happened to arrive just as she passed by... Ayu is really angry and won't take the bus anymore! Nina looks at her with thoughtfull eyes... Later in class Ayu thinks (again! ^^) how cool Kaji-kun is. She also realizes that Nina is missing. Elsewhere in the school, Nina uses her magic trasure box and makes a ring out of some little jewel beans. She then catches up to Ayu and gives her the "present." Ayu is really happy to receive such a cute ring from her, and Nina explains that it's a magic ring and that it will solve all of Ayu's problems with the perverts. Ayu can now take the bus whenever she wants! Ayu and Nina walk down the hallway laughing and talking until a boy passing by happens to touch her arm... and is instantly electrocuted! His friends run to him to see if he is allright, and when one of them bumps into Ayu, he gets electrocuted as well! Ayu drags Nina away and asks what kind of magic did she do, and Nina answers that it makes any male who comes in contact with her get an electricity charge... And since it's a magic ring, Ayu can't take it off! Of course, Nina has no idea of how to revert the magic... (^^;; ) Right then, one of the teachers spots them and gives Ayu something she had forgotten, spanking also Nina for skipping the class earlier. He then notices Ayu's ring and tells her that the regulations forbid wearing rings while in school so... Ayu tells him that she understand and will take the ring off later on... But the teacher insists that she takes it off right away and leans towards her... Ayu stares in horror and spurts, "No! Ha... harraser!!!" (shock) " ki... kinda..." Now the teacher has had enough of her! He takes her hand and... gets electrocuted, of course ^^; Ayu and Nina run away, but Ayu keeps on bumping into male students and leaves a path of electrocuted guys behind her... Nina is really impressed... Ayu tells Nina to go find a way to null the magic, but then happens to cross pathes with Kaji-kun. He is worried about her looking sick, so he starts walking towards her... and she starts walking away... and of course ends up falling a flight of stairs! Kaji-kun seizes her in time, however, and ends up unconscious from the electric shock. After leaving him in the school's infirmary, Ayu goes get her bag and when returning finds that Kaji has fallen asleep on one of the beds. He is so pretty, Ayu thinks! But she can't touch him... Ayu suddenly remembers she has a photo camera in her bag, so between loud heartbeats, she prepares to take a pic and... Tsujiai enters the room. Kaji wakes up and leaves with Tsujiai, who throws weird looks at Ayu. The poor girl is totally devastated and can just imagine Tsujiai telling Kaji about she taking photos of him like some weirdo... Ayu sinks deeper into depression, it's all over between her and Kaji! Nina returns with a pill for Ayu, which destroys the magic. Still... "Ahh... Kaji-kun... *sniff*"
